It’s upto the parents if the inculcate a child with a strong personality who can walk out  of a wrong / potentially dangerous marriage without a second thought and their full support without question when they return back to their parent home , these cases will drastically drop, unfortunately in most cases beside the husband and In laws it’s the parents of the bride who create a culture wherein the bride can sense experience abuse and potential threats to her safety but won’t leave her in-laws because her parents have closed their door for her return as the brides parents are more worried about society and what they think , if every brides parents has educated their child that if their safety was at stake they could and should come back anytime soon this crime would drop down dramatically

In the last 6 months there were numerous cases where many husbands were killed by wives and her lover. During that time, never have I ever seen india today making such articles but always support only one gender. Times now and even Hindu covered them but no such aggregated article from india today.

Her sister is burning and she was recording her instead of helping (saying, sister what have you done, no one is worth doing it), if we are defending women then at least listen to the interview of her sister-in-law and her brothers, they have evidence on their phone and with police, most probably in court too.

What's the data on how many women start the altercation? How many of those are retaliatory responses? What portion of those are because of poor mental health? What portion of those are a result of responding to abuse from women?

It's also a fact that women abuse men physically, mentally and verbally. You can sod off if you aren't going to address issues with a balanced point of view. You don't acknowledge that men can be abused, you aren't going to receive any solution. A person who normalizes his own pain will also normalize the hurt they put on others.

Till date I have only seen 1 in 5 women treat their boyfriends and husbands right. You don't think twice before emasculating them, exert mental duress, cause financial stress, destroy their internal support system and actively ignore their suffering. Do women not have any responsibility for that? 

Its a fucking miracle that it is only 30%.

How did NFHS calculate this 30% data point? If it is going just by a woman saying domestic violence happened then this sounds too low - Domestic Violence allegations (alongwith 498a allegations) are a standard part of literally every single contested divorce petition in this country filed by a woman.

Victims are always silenced bcz it's easy to suppress than to take action. It's important to spread awareness first.

You can start by calling it out whenever it happens. You will be alone at first and face a lot of opposition but that's what happens when you do the right thing

The only long term solution I can think of is for parents to reinforce that their kids need not think twice before packing their bags up.

Reinforce that the parents home is a safehouse to fall upon at anytime, anyday without any hesitation. 

Reinforce that it's not OK to live with abuse or harassment no matter what the situation is.

 I think most women in India are treated poorly by their family, and after marriage, by their in- laws/husband.

It is more of mental torture and restrictions, than physical violence though.

The solution is to hitback and leave. But for women to be able to hitback and leave they need support systems and independence. 

Though now that I think about it, hitting back and leaving would not decrease the DV numbers.

Its India, slapping once in a while, throwing stuff at your partner/child, threatening to kill yourself/them for xyz is normalized and ignored. I used to think maybe this is a class issue - uneducated/poor people do this or people who are alcohol dependent or do drugs do this. But as it turns out, this is very common throughout all classes. 

This is going to be an unpopular opinion but for these beginner level domestic violence, being violent back is the solution. So many cases of children in their teens or adulthood coming between parents, or threatening to beat the father up, or just screaming at the father puts the fear of getting hit back and stops the domestic violence. Similarly, relatives - namely brother/father of the woman, or cousins or neighbors coming at home and creating a scene also tend to stop this. 

Not to say this is a fullproof method, but it works in some cases.
